Firearms for film with The B.A.A.

published May 2, 2019

I had a great time moving on from physical combat and medieval warfare, into firearms.

Taking part in 'Gun Rush: Firearms for Film' at the renowned British Action Academy, I had a detailed and challenging day using real firearms, both live and blank rounds and learning how to perform for screen in an accurate and safe way. I’m dipping back into the B.A.A.'s Warrior Course Phases 1 & 2 this summer.

What I learned:

  • a variety of live, blank and gas firing weapon systems allowing me to perform realistic fire, movement and weapon handling skills safely and realistically within the legal parameters of the current UK firearms act.

  • Numerous performance based training scenarios such as: patrolling and engaging in numerous enemy personnel, moving from cover to cover whilst engaging enemy personnel, gun movement and gun sling shootout against opponent (western style).

  • Normal safety procedures.

  • Carriage of weapons systems (pistol and rifle).

  • Weapon handling/stoppage drills.

  • Magazine filling.

  • The Marksmanship Principles.

  • Live fire target shooting/grouping.

  • Firing positions/movement with a weapon.

  • Bullet hits reactions, falling and death techniques.

  • CQB range shoot.

  • Equipment use.
